We liked to thank all our guests for their comments and feedback. At Vatu Sanctuary we want to make your stay as comfortable as possible and whilst we are always there if needed, our aim is to ensure your privacy and be discreet as we go about our general ground maintenance and servicing.

Can’t ask for more.
We (5 of us) stayed in Vatu Sanctuary for (VC) 3 nights starting 6/7/2016. I was so busy enjoying myself in Ayers Rock that I have forgotten to call Colin to arranging the check-in. Colin couldn’t call me as I didn’t leave him a phone number. Colin, who has left me a e-mail that I didn’t read, gracefully accepted my apologies and promptly organised our check-in. He even left us a fruit basket! All of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in VC. The rooms were clean, aptly furnished. The air conditioners worked perfectly, not to mention the wifi, pool, BBQ, patio etc. What we enjoyed most is the kitchen where we have a lot of fun in preparing and cooking our dinners. We did try our very best to return the kitchen to its original sparking condition. Vatu Sanctuary is no doubt the best value for money accommodation we have experienced in the past 3 weeks in Australia. - CK (Expedia)

Dear Colin, Thank You So much for your “Welcome to Alice” - your enthusiasm for Alice Springs has rubbed off. Your beautiful gift basket was a treat of gourmet food Everyday! Thank you for Everything! Love Jane E

“Wonderful Stay”
My partner and i took my parents to Alice for 3 nights whilst they were visiting from the UK. I expected the Vatu to be good as i had read the excellent reviews before hand, but it definitely exceeded expectations. The manager Colin greeted us on arrival and straight away upgraded us from the 2 bedroom kingfisher to the HUGE 3 bedroom Pond apartment. We were all absolutely thrilled! We had a wonderful time in Alice and the accommodation most definitely the best we could have asked for! Thanks so much for the stay Collin, we will definitely be back! - Emma B (TripAdvisor)

“Oasis in the Desert!”
The secret is out! Vatu Sanctuary is by far the best accommodation in Alice Springs! Funky little Central Australian get away … We couldn’t have asked for more! Every thing here is beautiful … Privacy, pool, gardens, art, artefacts & so many little homie extras. Not sure that I want to share this hidden gem with anyone else! Caters for everyone … Singles, couples & families. Treat yourself … You won’t be disappointed! - Renata H (TripAdvisor)

“Not Hotel but a Home”
This eclectic home is very comfortable for families and people on business to stay while in Alice Springs. Collin, the manager, was found to be exceedingly hospitable and accommodating. The portion of the residence we occupied (three bedroom) was clean, comfortable and fully equipped. We had a private entrance and had no contact with the other guests unless we entered the pool area. The high speed internet was flawless and there were more cable TV channels as compared to any other hotel in which I have stayed. The laundry room was a handy benefit and the patio BBQ was a pleasant experience since we purchased one evenings meal at the local butcher. - CaptainBlackie (TripAdvisor)

Colin - We have really enjoyed our stay at Vatu Sanctuary. Thank you NB & AD

“A wonderful change of scenery and accommodation”
Alice Springs has an abundance of creative talent and staying at Vatu Sanctuary instead of a traditional hotel or motel immerses you in this element of the community. Two families (6 of us) huddled into the 2 bedroom apartment , walls filled with quality art work, a magical garden , equipped to eat take out from local restaurants and plenty of space within the property and out for kids to safely chase Pokemon . The apartment is well appointed , warm , cosy and very good value and our closest attraction was the Telegraph Station - brilliant.

“We had the two bedroom apartment, the three bedroom took lifestyle and space to an entirely new level of stylish accommodation.” Home71 (TripAdvisor)

A Work of Art: Vatu Sanctuary
“The gourmet delights welcome pack, the stunning artworks both in the house and in the garden, the extra helpful and friendly property manager Colin, the privacy and quiet, the extra touches like a fire brazier overlooked by metal emu sculptures outside in the back patio: everything about this place makes it a special stay in Alice. I go to Alice at least once a year, and I will always try to stay at Vatu now that I know it. So many options as well: we were two couples and had the 2 bedroom at the homestead, but my husband and I are going back up there in late June (for Sustainable Couture fashion parade and the Beanie festival!!!!) and will be staying in the one bedroom Bure at the Sanctuary. There’s also a studio, and a 3 bedroom option.” - Liz W (BookingCom)

Great, relaxing place!
“Very friendly, accommodating staff; charming place with own spa and lots of songbirds; very well equipped” - Carolyh (BookingCom)

A hidden Alice Springs gem
“Although it cost slightly more than other available accommodation,it was well worth the extra money to spend our week at Vatu Sanctuary. It’s a hidden oasis in the middle of Alice Springs. Staff are extremely welcoming & professional; the property is clean, comfortable, quiet, well catered, well maintained, private & secure. It is like a home away from home, with many little details provided (olive oil, spices, interesting reading materials, insect repellant etc) There is ample information about local attractions, restaurants etc & the property itself is within walking distance of a small supermarket & shops. The outdoor area is relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our week & would definitely consider staying here again or recommending to friends.” - Kellie (BookingCom)

“Who Knew How Clever and Comfortable?”
My wife and I stayed in The Studio at Vatu Sanctuary for three nights in April, 2014 and were astonished at the artistic concepts embodied in this inn/compound, located in the midst of a purely residential area. High walls ensure privacy; easy parking on the street right in front; wonderful private pool with surrounding sculpture, Buddha fountain, etc. Nearby grocery store for stocking up on food to prepare in well equipped housekeeping kitchen. All units on ground level and have separate patios. If and when we return to Alice, we will certainly stay here. Ask for Colin Leel, the manager; the proprietor was (surprise!) an art gallery owner. Highly recommended.
Room Tip: “Unless you are traveling with children, the Studio unit will be just the ticket. The other two units have separate bedrooms, dining areas, etc.” - Wpdame3 (TripAdvisor)

“Truly a sanctuary”
We stayed at the Pond which opens onto gardens on three sides and has access to an inviting swimming pool.. The gardens are gorgeous and rose bushes bloomed in profusion. Colin, the manage,r invited us to cut fresh roses to decorate the house and we did.
There was a generous welcome basket of nibbles, fruit and cheeses and again we were told to help ourselves to the mandarins in the garden - fresh and juicy.
The kitchen was a cooks delight and perfect for catering for 6 of us. We loved the choices for eating indoors or out and we used the BBQ one evening for kangaroo burgers.
Each of the three bedrooms has a different character and our guests were fascinated by the artworks and artifacts throughout the house and garden.
Colin, the manager was wonderful from first contact. He was always available daily and helped to solve a number of dilemmas which arose when one of our party had to be hospitalized.
Our friends returned to stay in a one bedroom apartment at Vatu Sanctuary and found it a restful hideaway in which to recuperate.
We recommend the property for a group of friends, family or a couple and certainly want to return.
Room Tip: Every room is different but we loved the conservatory room at the Pond that had views on two sides. - hawdownunder (TripAdvisor)

Great Place to stay

“Wonderful hidden gem in the outback!”
We had the pleasure of staying in Alice Springs in early January for 3 nights. During our visit we made the trek to Uluru and also visited the sights of Alice. We were hosted by Rosalind and Colin. It is as described. A real sanctuary. Very well equipped and well thought out. Beautiful aboriginal artwork throughout the sanctuary which showcases aboriginal art and culture in multiple forms. We arrived in a heat wave and the salt water pool was wonderful to cool off. We would highly recommend this accommodation - much more than a traditional hotel. Well located and memorable. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience Rosalind and Colin and Happy New Year to you both. - Laviolek (TripAdvisor)

Great place to stay
I will vote Vatu as the best accommodation I have ever stay…I consider I went to the dessert but felt like I was in Gold Coast at Vatu☺ - Hel (Expedia)

Ron - Ballarat
We stayed at the Vatu Sanctuary for thirteen nights in the 3 bedroom Villa - amenities, pool, surrounds security and privacy were excellent and the Villa was located in a very quiet part of the city and close to shopping and amenities - great place to say and the owners extremely good to deal with - Ron J (TripAdvisor)

A hidden oasis in Alice Springs
Location: Close to the centre of Alice Springs. I visit for business but often hear from tourists they wish they’d stayed longer as there’s so much to do.
Could not fault the Vatu Sanctuary. Stayed five days in the studio, which was therapy in itself. The staff are thoughtful and helpful and the units have every single thing you could possibly need. And that’s before you get to the amazing atmosphere, art, furnishings and convenience. Don’t now if I should let others in on this secret! - Jane (Wotif)

“What a find!”
This was the highlight of our stay in Alice Springs!
We didn’t want to go out at all after arriving at ‘The Pond’ which we were upgraded to after the Kingfisher was being refurbished. It didn’t matter, each apartment is more gorgeous than the last.
Had come from a camping tour of Uluru and in need of some down time (and a catch up with family in Alice) and could not imagine a better way to spend it.
Has to be one of the most unusual and beautiful places we have ever stayed (and it still appears to be a secret in Alice…lets keep it that way!)
Colin could not have been more helpful. Only complaint is we didn’t have enough time to stay longer…will just have to come back. Thank you for an amazing stay - Love2cookandtravel (TripAdvisor)

“Desert Bliss”
We stayed at Vatu Sanctuary for 6 nights in the 3 bedroom and 1 bedroom apartments. When we arrived we just couldn’t believe how beautiful it was: the grounds are landscaped but in a quirky “secret garden” sort of style. Everywhere you look is something different and amazing, there are paintings on the outside walls, ponds with statues, a water feature and lovely saltwater pool. Inside are more treasures with paintings on every wall surface. Everything you would need for a short stay has been thought of, plenty of towels, coffee & tea, filtered water, every utensil you could think of. It was spotless and decorated with interesting pieces in every room. Lots of comfy lounges, outdoor settings and a huge BBQ. There was a jumbo sized spa with swim jets and as we relaxed in that with a (plastic) glass of champagne on a beautiful desert afternoon we felt like we were in paradise. We were there for a wedding and it was so lovely we decided to do the photos for the bridal party getting ready there. - Donna3998 (TripAdvisor)

“Desert Oasis”
Relaxed as soon as we arrived at Vatu. An excellent base when in Alice Springs and visiting Uluru. Such a tranquil and secluded space to come home to - beautiful bird-life, gardens, waterfall and entertaining area. All the mod-cons & luxury not to mention the world-class art which was a real treat.
Can’t wait to get back there! - Jock T (TripAdvisor)

“Vatu Sanctuary - paradise in the Alice”
I had the delight of staying at Vatu Sanctuary for a six month period whilst working in the Alice. The pleasure every day of returning to this wonderful Oasis, where both inside and outside are a treat to the senses, is an experience I will treasure. Wonderfully maintained, and decorated with a homage to art, the lovely 2 bedroom Kingfisher was my retreat. I was able to entertain friends and had family come to visit in surrounds that provided peace and tranquility. Every option for accommodation is different, but equally enchanting, and because there are so many outside areas to enjoy, with the joy of access to water both with sight and sound, I never felt as though I was sharing the Sanctuary with anyone, it felt as though I had the place to myself, even though I didn’t! This really is the best accommodation in Alice Springs. - Sarah J (TripAdvisor)

“A hidden gem in the Alice”
Not all accommodation in the Alice is the same. Vatu sanctuary is hidden in suburban Alice Springs and offers, as the name suggests, a sanctuary for the outside world.
There are a number of different accommodation units, all with access to a large pool and garden, but some with their own tranquil garden as well. The unit I stayed in, The Bure, was comfortably furnished with a great deal of thought given to the comfort and peace of mind of their guests. There are many works of art, some modern, some ancient, some Australian and many from other parts of our region. Thought appears to have gone into the Feng Shui of the place as well and there is a lovely pondok style outdoor lounging about area. The kitchen is well equipped and even has the basic condiments supplied, perhaps by each guest leaving what they do need to take with them. Well worth the investment if you plan to have a few days in the Alice.
Room Tip: “Look at the website in detail. All of the accommodation options are different and each will suit a different type of person.” - RickM921 (TripAdvisor)

“Secure & Serene”
Having been contracted to work in Alice Springs for 3 months I needed fully self-contained accommodation for the duration. The choice of fully self-contained apartments for less than 6 months was slim pickings until I found Vatu Sanctuary. It was home away from home for 3 months with absolutely everything needed to make my stay most comfortable. Vatu Sanctuary apartments are set in a secure location with beautiful secluded, relaxing gardens, with a pool. The proprietor, Ros, has thought of everything, and I mean everything! I would highly recommend Vatu Sanctuary. - Heather S (TripAdvisor)

“Heaven in Alice”
Should have posted this review way earlier… I always start smiling when I read “hidden gem” in Tripadvisor reviews. And now I HAVE to use the same phrase. It is absolute heaven to be in this place. We stayed almost a week just before Christmas.
We stayed in Vatu Sanctuary - The Bure. What a great place to be, And we had the complete place almost all to ourselves. And fortunately Colin was there every morning and he gave us some great tips! Stanley Chasm at noon: spectacular; The wallabies at the Gap etc. And, yes, Colin: after we left you and visited Kings Canyon and Uluru we agree with you: the early morning 5 am walk of the Kings Canyon rim was the undisputed highlight of our holiday.
It’s great to have a host who is there when you need him and further leaves us in complete privacy.
We recommend Vatu to anyone who wants to relax in a beautiful environment.
As mentioned by many: best equipped apartment I ever visited in my whole life. We loved the art. BTW Some of Dorothy Napangardi’s paintings are now on display in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Amazing!
Colin, Rosalyn: thanks very much for having us at the Vatu! - pacoNetherlands (TripAdvisor)

LOVE VATU SANCTUARY
Great apartments with such charm & character, loads of books, art work, magazines & great furnishings. Super comfy beds, pillows & lounge. HUGE flat screen TV. Extremely well equipped kitchen & bathroom (even beach towels for the pool & spa…) LOVE Vatu Sanctuary - wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else in Alice Springs!
Room Tip: All the apartments are great! - lynette m (TripAdvisor)

“A lush home away from home”
Vatu sanctuary is a cheerful and welcoming place to stay when visiting Alice or bringing guests to town. The selection of local art and the decor and landscaping is pitch perfect. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get behind the tourist face of Alice, but also wants to be comfortable and relaxed. - Alex K (TripAdvisor)

“Hope it stays hidden!”
I have stayed at two of the Vatu Sanctuary properties now and will be staying at a third this coming week. This is a place to visit and meet with others or to spend time alone and replenish, surrounded by beautiful artwork. Lovely areas inside and outside. - JudyDarwin (TripAdvisor)

“hidden gem”
Amazed this place does not have lots of reviews from others!
A great house with lots of nice nooks and spaces. Great artwork and nice style.
We stayed as a group while filming in Alice and booked out the whole place - the house was fantastic with lots of private spaces with great communal areas.
Room Tip: All rooms are good -  CharlieC53 (TripAdvisor)
